With Reproductive Freedom on the Line, Lombardo Chooses Silence Over Transparency

As the Supreme Court weighs a decision on Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban that has the potential to threaten Roe v. Wade, Nevadans should know exactly where the GOP candidates for governor stand on the issue.

Despite the majority of Nevadans supporting the right to choose, the Republican field is committed to undoing Nevada’s progress on reproductive freedom. Dean Heller has said he “likes what Texas did.” John Lee touted a plan to be Nevada’s most anti-choice governor. Joey Gilbert plans to oppose any pro-choice legislation. And Guy Nohra lists abortion as a top priority.

Joe Lombardo continues to be vague on his stance, saying only that he’s anti-choice without offering further details, unlike his opponents. Throughout his campaign, Lombardo prioritizes political gain over transparency–using a corrupt operation within Metro as a talking point for his base, avoiding questions on the Big Lie, and giving two different stances on defunding the police as sheriff and as candidate for governor. With an issue that’s widely supported by Nevadans and currently threatened at the highest level, Lombardo must give voters a clear position.

“With reproductive freedom hanging in the balance in the Supreme Court right now, it’s critical that voters know exactly where this Republican field stands. Spoiler alert: it’s not with the majority of Nevadans,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “Joe Lombardo hasn’t even offered an explanation of his ‘pro-life’ stance, once again lacking transparency with voters and playing politics with a critical issue.”
