The GOP Who Cried Voter Fraud

As the Lander County Commission attempts to audit their electronic voting machines, the GOP candidates for Governor have refused to oppose this overhaul of our election system. They’ve already made election integrity a focal point in their campaigns, despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Nevada. And the state party praised Arizona for ordering an election audit earlier this year.

But with the Department of Justice and Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske shutting down the Lander County Commission’s audit efforts, the divide among the GOP over election fraud is becoming more stark. Do the GOP candidates for Governor agree with the Lander County Commission in their election overhaul or do they stand with the Secretary of State–the only statewide Republican elected official left? And with the Department of Homeland Security warning local police departments of potential violence due to false voter fraud claims, will Lombardo keep fueling his base with debunked claims or will he put the safety of Clark County first?

“Despite the potential threat of violence, the GOP candidates for Governor will cry election fraud as loud as they can in an attempt to win a crowded primary,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “But how far will they take it? Nevadans deserve to know if they support Lander County’s efforts to undermine our election system and, if elected, whether they will use unfounded claims of voter fraud to limit Nevadans’ access to the ballot box.”
