Nevada Democratic Victory Celebrates Indigenous People’s Day with Events in Las Vegas, Reno

Nevada Democratic Victory launched its tribal outreach program early and has continued to work to engage tribal communities ahead of the 2022 election

On Monday, Nevada Democratic Victory hosted events in Reno and Las Vegas for Indigenous People’s Day, celebrating the long traditions and heritage of the Indigenous communities across Nevada. Celebrations were joined by candidates and elected officials from across the state, as well as leaders in Nevada’s Indigenous communities.

In Reno, Nevada Democratic Victory joined UNR’s Indigenous People’s Day Celebration, with Gov. Sisolak, Mercedes Krause, Natha Anderson (AD-30 Candidate), Angie Taylor (AD-27 Candidate), Edwin Lyngar (Washoe Co. Commission District 5 Candidate), and Erica Flavin (Sparks Justice Court Candidate) joining to speak about the importance of Nevada’s Indigenous community. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Pow Wow Club performed, as did Nino Santo, an indigenous hip hop/rap group, and Danza Azteca Aztlan

In Las Vegas, Nevada Democratic Victory joined the Native American Student Association and Native American Alumni Club at UNLV for a luncheon joined by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, followed by a celebration of Indigenous Cultures on Campus. Guest speakers Treasurer Zach Conine, Cisco Aguilar (Secretary of State Candidate), Shea Backus (AD-37 Candidate), and Howard Watts (AD-15 Candidate) joined and experienced dance and musical performances from the local Indigenous community.
