NDV Statement: Retirement of Supreme Court Justice Breyer Highlights Dangers of Anti-Choice Senate Candidate Adam Laxalt

Executive Director for Nevada Democratic Victory, Brynn Palmen, issued the following statement on the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer:

“The retirement of Justice Breyer is a stark reminder of what is at stake in this next election for Nevadans. Longtime anti-choice extremist Adam Laxalt has dedicated his career to rolling back the rights of women and using his position as Attorney General to threaten reproductive rights. If elected to the Senate, Laxalt would support Supreme Court nominees who would further undermine women’s reproductive freedoms.

With the Supreme Court considering a case that would fundamentally strip health care coverage away from women across the country, there is no doubt abortion access is on the ballot this November, and today’s news underscores the importance of our protecting the Senate from anti-choice candidates like Adam Laxalt.”

Background:

Adam Laxalt has spent his entire career working to restrict women’s reproductive rights. As Attorney General he chose to sign onto multiple legal efforts that would threaten abortion access, even pledging to ‘look into’ rolling back the law that protects Nevadans’ right to choose.
