Coming off an abysmal debate performance where he distanced himself from Trump only to backtrack hours later, Joe Lombardo’s handlers are in full damage control mode just days before Trump is set to campaign in Nevada.

Lombardo – who has failed to unify the conservative base since his weak primary showing – has struggled to bring Republican voters behind him while also appealing to the general electorate. Now, with only a month to go, he’s relying on an election-denying insurrectionist to resuscitate his campaign with a stale endorsement.

“Joe Lombardo is stumbling into the final stretch with no plans, no support from the Republican base, no momentum, and still taking both sides on every issue from abortion to Trump,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “Days after saying Trump wasn’t a great president just to quickly walk it back, Lombardo is still trying to rewrite history, now with a half-hearted endorsement from an election-denying insurrectionist, but nothing is going to clean up his mess.”
