Laxalt served as a key witness in the federal corruption trial of Lev Parnas, who was sentenced today
In Case You Missed It, a notorious Laxalt ally, Trump associate Lev Parnas, has been sentenced to time in prison for illegally funneling campaign cash from a Russian oligarch to Laxalt and other Republican politicians.
Here’s a recap of Laxalt’s extensive history with Parnas and Russia:
- Federal court documents revealed that Parnas and Russian oligarch Andrey Muraviev had been led to believe that Laxalt would help them get a marijuana license in Nevada while they raised campaign cash for him.
- Muraviev even “traveled to Nevada as part of these efforts, and received regular updates” from Parnas and his co-conspirators on their work with Laxalt, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
- One of their text messages read “I had a good meeting with Attorney General of Nevada and he is willing to help in Vegas,” accompanied by a photo of a Parnas associate with Laxalt.
- As a result of his deep ties to Parnas, Laxalt had to testify in federal court.
This marked Laxalt’s third major pay-to-play scandal from his time as Attorney General, having previously abused his position to try to keep investigators from scrutinizing groups connected to his campaign backers and having been caught on tape pressuring state regulators to help another top donor.
Statement from Nevada Democratic Victory Spokesperson Olivia Davis:
“A corrupt politician, Laxalt has a lengthy record of pay-to-play scandals, and his ties to this Russian oligarch were certain to land someone in prison sooner or later.”
