ICYMI: Adam Laxalt Opposes Historic Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Bill

Before even officially launching a campaign for the U.S. Senate Adam Laxaltannounced  he would’ve been an automatic vote against common sense jobs legislation in the Senate, stating that he strongly opposed the bipartisan infrastructure deal that Nevada’s senators passed last week. Laxalt’s opposition comes just days after Donald Trump warned Republicans it would be “very hard” for him to endorse candidates who support the bill.

Nevada is set to receive $3 billion under the newly approved Senate bipartisan infrastructure bill, yet Adam Laxalt was deeply “critical” of the infrastructure package, even after nineteen Senate Republicans supported it.

A Laxalt “no vote” would have meant a possible loss of billions for Nevada’s economic future including the jobs created under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

  • $2.5 billion for federal-aid highway apportioned programs;
  • $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs;
  • $459 million to improve public transportation options across the state;
  • $38 million to support the expansion of an EV charging network;
  • At least $100 million to help provide broadband coverage across the state, including providing access to the at least 123,000 Nevadans residents who currently lack it;
  • $450 million in water infrastructure funding that could  provide water for 500,000 households;
  • $3.4 billion to prevent and control wildfires.

Statement from Senior Communications Advisor Andy Orellana:

“This week’s passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill will deliver historic investments for Nevada’s economic future, and still  Adam Laxalt is embracing the far-right fringes of his party that tried to block it. Laxalt’s knee-jerk partisan opposition to this historic bipartisan jobs bill tells Nevadans everything they need to know about his priorities – he’ll follow Trump even if it means killing jobs in Nevada communities.”
