ICYMI: Adam Laxalt at the Center of January 6th Anniversary

NV Current: “And of course there’s Adam Laxalt. Say what you will about him, his self-centeredness and cynicism is arguably world class. He will do or say anything if he thinks it will further his life-long political aspirations.”

RGJ (opinion): “Laxalt continues to lob constant, baseless lies about Nevada’s electoral system, as he attempts to destroy the institutions of his adopted home state. Yet, his party rewards him for spreading Trump’s Big Lie.”

NV Indy: “Laxalt’s campaign could not be immediately reached for comment.”

American Indy: “Adam Laxalt […] has been mostly silent on the matter.”

As Donald Trump’s Nevada campaign chair, corrupt politician Adam Laxalt led the charge in promoting Trump’s Big Lie about voter fraud in 2020, and now a year after the events of January 6th, Laxalt refuses to condemn the violence he helped fuel that tragic day.

As Nevadans marked the anniversary of that fateful day last year, Laxalt’s role in pushing and promoting Trump’s Big Lie in 2020 and beyond has stayed front and center in the minds of Nevadans. Read more below on how Laxalt’s role and complicity are being remembered today:

Nevada Independent: Year after Capitol riot, Ford says ‘big lie’ remains a threat to democracy

Humberto Sanchez // January 5, 2022

He also referred to former Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who helped lead the GOP effort to overturn the vote on Nevada. Laxalt’s campaign could not be immediately reached for comment.

“I will not tolerate voter fraud, though it is extremely rare,” Ford said. “As between myself and my predecessor [Adam Laxalt], who always was touting the big lie, there is only one of us who actually prosecuted a voter fraud case. And it’s not him.”

American Independent: GOP Senate hopefuls can’t agree on whether Jan. 6 riot was a big deal

Josh Israel // January 6, 2022

Thursday will mark the first anniversary of the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. While…GOP leaders plan to stay silent, it does not appear that top Republicans running for the Senate can agree on how to frame the event.

Adam Laxalt […] has been mostly silent on the matter. In a September interview, he mentioned only “that fateful day in January when they pulled him [Trump] off of social media and pulled them off of Twitter and people felt that in their stomach, ‘Oh, my God, they can cancel a former president of the United States,'” after Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook for inciting violent attacks.

Nevada Current: Eh, Republicans never cared much for democracy anyway

Hugh Jackson // January 6, 2022

Also in Nevada, every Republican candidate for, well, just about everything is pushing the Big Lie. Some do it deliberately and blatantly (Joey Gilbert and Jim Marchant, for example) because they possess a child-like inability to discern fact from fantasy.

[…]

And of course there’s Adam Laxalt. Say what you will about him, his self-centeredness and cynicism is arguably world class. He will do or say anything if he thinks it will further his life-long political aspirations. Today, the thing he will say and do is pretend that A) Jan. 6 is no big whoop, and B) his prominent and full-throated participation in the Big Lie had nothing to do with people like Black, Gilbert and other Nevadans being in DC that day.

Reno Gazette Journal: Opinion: Real patriots defend democracy

Sarah Mahler // January 6, 2022

A year after the Capitol insurrection, those responsible have decided not only to excuse the violence, but to also expand their attacks on democracy […] At the heart of the attack on our democracy is the Big Lie that “Trump won,” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Time and again we’ve seen it, too long to catalog here, through court cases, Republican secretaries of state, and all of reality asserting itself.

Yet instead of feeling shame at being so wrong, many of Nevada’s home-grown cranks are valorizing the violence. People like Joey Gilbert celebrate the events of Jan. 6, as it if is an aspiration to be repeated, while Adam Laxalt continues to lob constant, baseless lies about Nevada’s electoral system, as he attempts to destroy the institutions of his adopted home state.
