Over the past year, crime has been on the rise in Clark County and just this year, homicides have increased by two-thirds. And where is Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo? Touring the state asking Nevadans for a promotion to Governor. But it begs the question one Las Vegas Review-Journal reader recently asked, “If he can’t control the rising burglaries, murders, gun crimes and car thefts — which is his current job — how successful can he be as governor?”

This steep rise in crime comes as little surprise given Lombardo believes the biggest challenge facing the valley is his decision to run for Governor–not homicides, violent crime, or the rise in use of police force against Black people. 

“Joe Lombardo has been derelict in his duty as Clark County Sheriff. Crime is on the rise and homicides have increased by two-thirds but Lombardo is more concerned about his campaign for Governor,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Molly Forgey. “Rather than protecting families in Southern Nevada, he’s touring the state asking for a promotion. With Lombardo facing a growing Republican primary and nearly a year of campaigning before the primary, Nevadans have never been less safe.”
