GOP Candidates For #NVGov Would Bring The Texas Abortion Ban To Nevada

As Texas’ near-abortion ban goes into effect today, Nevadans deserve a Governor who will continue to protect their right to choose. But the GOP candidates for Governor have proven records of attacking reproductive rights and health services.

After campaigning as a pro-choice candidate in 2006, Dean Heller moved to the right on the issue to overcome a primary challenge. Despite trying to muddle his position for political convenience, his voting record in Congress made his stance clear: he supported abortion bans and voted to cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood – after promising he’d protect them. Mark Amodei has made attacking reproductive rights a priority, even flying to Washington, DC in the wake of the tragic Las Vegas shooting to cast his vote for an abortion ban while his colleagues stayed behind to support the community. Joey Gilbert has promised to oppose any pro-choice legislation. Ending the right to choose is a marquee issue on Joe Lombardo’s campaign website. John Lee has proudly declared that he’s pro-life. And Guy Nohra has listed abortion as a top priority in his campaign.

“The near-total abortion ban in Texas is devastating and we can’t let it happen in Nevada,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “The Republican candidates for Governor would take away our reproductive rights in an instant. Governor Sisolak, on the other hand, has always been committed to protecting our right to choose.”
