Crowded Republican Primary for Governor Intensifies with Gilbert’s Entrance

This week, Joey Gilbert announced he is running for Governor, joining an increasingly crowded Republican field. Gilbert’s claim to fame is attending the deadly January 6th insurrection and pushing dangerous conspiracy theories. His entrance into the race escalates an already messy primary ensuring this will be a combative, year-long fight.

Gilbert is joining Joe Lombardo who announced his candidacy last month but has yet to tell Nevadans why he’s running or what he plans to do as Nevada’s Governor and John Lee who has been largely absent from the trail after criticizing life-saving efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and then contracting the virus himself.

“Joey Gilbert jumping into the already crowded Republican field for Governor just intensified what has become a nasty primary,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Molly Forgey. “Throwing jabs and pushing his opponents to the right all but ensures no one will emerge from this year-long contest unscathed. While Republicans duke it out over their fealty to Trump, Governor Sisolak continues to prioritize Nevada’s working families by getting shots in arms and overseeing our economic recovery.”
