Banner Day for the Big Lie: NVGOP Nominates Candidates Out of Step with Nevada Families

Nevada Democrats have worked to even the playing field and help working Nevadans, but the NVGOP seems laser-focused on nominating extremist candidates driven by self-interest

How was your Nevada primary day? For the Nevada Republican Party, it was nothing short of typical. Primary victories from corrupt Adam Laxalt, lying Joe Lombardo, and QAnon-aligned Jim Marchant prove that the Nevada GOP has fallen way, way off the wagon. Let’s take a closer look at the Nevada GOP’s new message carriers for the Big Lie:

Adam Laxalt, the Nevada GOP’s choice for Senate, is a corrupt politician who abused his elected office as Attorney General and has based his entire campaign around the Big Lie. As Donald Trump’s campaign co-chair in Nevada, Laxalt led the failed efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and he’s already planning to do the same thing in 2022 if he doesn’t like the results. After being rejected by Nevadans in 2018, Laxalt cashed in at a Washington, D.C. law firm that represents Big Oil companies, pulling in nearly $3 million dollars. Laxalt’s extensive anti-abortion agenda goes against the 69% of Nevadans who are pro-choice.

Joe Lombardo is no less two-faced than the rest of the Nevada GOP’s dangerous slate of candidates. He’s a hot head who lacks the temperament to lead. When it comes to the issues that matter most to Nevadans, he’s unclear at best about where he stands on abortion, while his plan to put more guns in schools couldn’t be more out of touch. To make matters worse, Lombardo still hasn’t been able to coalesce the GOP base despite a year of campaigning, failing to win a single public county party straw poll. In November, Nevadans will see right through Lombardo’s lies and re-elect Gov. Sisolak, who has a record of fighting for working Nevadans.

Nevada GOP Secretary of State candidate Jim Marchant hasn’t just cozied up to QAnon — he’s outright aligned with it. Even mainstream Republicans are worried about Marchant, spending over 7-figure sums to promote his opponent. Marchant is familiar with the role of sore loser, suing to overturn his 2020 election loss, and Nevada Democratic Victory’s organizing infrastructure is at the ready to make sure he gets to play the role at least one more time: in November.

And that’s not to mention other Republican candidates like Mark Robertson (CD1) who thinks that the 2020 election raised “legitimate concerns,” and April Becker (CD3) who filed a lawsuit in ’20 to attempt to overturn the results of her failed election. The NVGOP certainly has proved it’s ready to align with some of Congress’ best, like Sam Peters (CD4), who AZ Congressman Paul Gosar endorsed.

But not to stop there – Republican nominees also include the likes of the Lady Trump, Michele Fiore who spent thousands courting Trump’s endorsement on TV at Mar-a-Lago, and GOP Attorney General nominee Sigal Chattah who counts her friends among those who plotted to overturn the 2020 election.

Statement from Nevada Democratic Victory Spokesperson Joshua Rush:

“It’s par for the course for the Nevada GOP. With a full slate of candidates that have entirely embraced Donald Trump and the Big Lie, or gone quiet when it matters most, the NVGOP is showing Nevadans exactly who they are. In November, voters will reject their far-right fearmongering, electing and re-electing Nevada Democrats who will continue to deliver for Nevada families.”
