Band of Bothers

Joe Lombardo’s lack of transparency was once again on full display this week and the Las Vegas Review-Journal came with receipts. Metro’s immigration practices isn’t the only issue he hasn’t been clear on; he hasn’t offered any details on his abortion stance despite a majority of Nevadans’ support for reproductive care. The rest of the field started emptying their wallets and putting up TV ads. Meanwhile, Trump announced he’s coming to Nevada soon so it’s only a matter of time before the band of bothers are tripping over themselves to get as far-right as possible and impress their leader.

Everything you need to know about what the Band of Bothers have been up to this week:

Lombardo’s Web of Lies
Joe Lombardo has spun multiple stories about his immigration stance for political gain, but a new story is highlighting his corrupt and deceptive immigration policies. The Las Vegas Review-Journal revealed today that since Lombardo publicly touted ending the 287(g) program in 2019, Metro officers have been instructed to help ICE locate undocumented immigrants who have been jailed for nonviolent crimes–and to not document when ICE picked up inmates to keep Lombardo from getting caught.

But at an event hosted by the NAACP earlier this year, Lombardo claimed that he doesn’t have a zero tolerance policy on immigration and Metro only goes after “the worst of the worst.” As candidate for governor who’s pandering to his base, however, he tweeted about his zero tolerance policy and bragged about deporting immigrants.

After all the lies and deception, Lombardo and his team wouldn’t respond to questions about Metro’s practices.

Lombardo’s leadership style: lie, cheat, cover up, repeat.

Now Playing: The Ad Wars
Seven months out, the ads wars are officially on. With four candidates and candidate-aligned groups already investing a total of seven figures in air time, it’s only a matter of time before Nevada households are flooded with negative ads and the GOP candidates are digging for change in their couches. The expensive GOP civil war is ramping up and unlikely to slow down before June.

Nightmare Before Christmas
Trump is coming to town, announcing that he’ll be holding a rally in Nevada soon–bad news for #NVGov Republicans as they face even more pressure to prove their MAGA bonafides in order to win his endorsement.

Lombardo Stays Silent on Reproductive Rights…
Following the release of a new national poll that shows the majority of Americans support access to abortion, John Lee went far-right on the issue this week, joining the rest of the field in being out of step with Nevadans’ overwhelming support for reproductive rights. Heller would turn Nevada into Texas, Gilbert has promised to veto any pro-choice legislation, and Nohra has made it a campaign priority. The only candidate to stay quiet is Lombardo, who’s said he’s anti-choice but hasn’t offered any details beyond that–unlike his opponents–and is blatantly hiding his position from voters.

This Week’s Unpopular Obsession + Popular Omission
While the field became obsessed with competing over the airwaves this week, they failed to talk about infrastructure. With the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, Nevada will now have the funds needed to fix our roads and bridges and to create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Soundbite of the Week
Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Local immigration advocates say Metro’s policy toward nonviolent offenders runs contrary to Lombardo’s public position. They also say the department’s record-keeping practice is non-transparent.”
