Band of Bothers

The only thing more exciting than the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) this week was watching the messy #NVGov primary continue to unfold. Joe Lombardo is using taxes to fear-monger once again, while Fiore is claiming the title of Law and Order candidate. Joey Gilbert is also clearly unimpressed with Lombardo, arguing again that he isn’t worthy of a promotion when crime is off the charts in Clark County. Gilbert’s momentum continues to grow, rounding up support from Trump’s circle this week.

Everything you need to know about what the Band of Bothers have been up to this week:

Lombardo’s Scare Tax-tic
Per usual, Lombardo stooped to his classic fear-mongering tactics, tweeting about “massive tax hikes” when, in reality, Governor Sisolak announced this week that businesses won’t see an increase in the unemployment insurance tax. Lombardo has used this scare tactic for months, even falsely claiming there’s a push for a state income tax. When pushed on it last week, he could only point to “a rumor he had heard.”

A New Sheriff in Town
Fiore is moving in on Sheriff Lombardo, establishing herself as the Law and Order candidate. After blasting him for not protecting a Blue Lives Matter march and re-affirming her strong defense of the police, she’s now picking up support from law enforcement officials like the “REAL” Sheriff Joe.

Joey Gilbert and Mark Meadows Walk Into a Bar
Gilbert clearly agrees that Lombardo is an inadequate candidate, doubling down that he doesn’t deserve a promotion as crime continues to soar in Clark County. Now, he’s calling out “RINO” Lombardo for donating more to Governor Sisolak than to Republican candidates.

Gilbert has proven he can excite the conservative base and Trump’s circle is noticing. After securing an endorsement from Michael Flynn, he met with Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to discuss issues that are “most important to Nevadans” the conservative base.

This Week’s Unpopular Obsession + Popular Omission
This week the field was obsessed with courting endorsements from Trump sycophants to excite the far-right base–despite their problematic pasts. We’re predicting the next coveted endorsement Republicans are after is Steve Bannon.

Meanwhile, they continue to ignore one of the most critical issues to Nevadans following a pandemic: health care.

Soundbite of the Week
“If crime is exploding in Las Vegas, literally exploding…how do you get a promotion?” – Joey Gilbert
