As Lombardo’s Silence Continues, More Questions Are Raised

It’s officially been three weeks since the public learned Lombardo kept them in the dark while running a corrupt, deceptive operation within Metro for years. Nevadans deserve to hear from him, yet he remains silent. This adds just another bullet point to the list of examples of Lombardo lacking transparency with Nevadans. As he stays silent, our list of questions continues to grow:

  • When you ended 287(g) in 2019, you said in a statement that you were only after “the worst of the worst.” Why did you instruct officers the very next day to flag nonviolent immigrants for ICE? And–specifically–that they keep it off the books?
  • You’ve given inconsistent stories and hidden your actual immigration policies. How do voters know what to believe? How can they trust you?
  • Why wasn’t the Clark County Commission–the body in charge of funding your department–made aware of your private immigration policy?
  • Why did Chuck Callaway lie to the state legislature when he said there’s “a department policy against immigration enforcement in the field?”
  • How do you justify lying to those you serve to protect?
  • After running a corrupt operation to serve your political purposes, why should Nevadans trust you to run the state?

“Per usual, Joe Lombardo’s actions–and silence–are unbecoming of a governor,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “From lying to the public about Metro’s policies to avoiding the tough questions, he’s giving Nevadans a clear look at how he’d run this state–with no transparency and no regard for his constituents.”
