Another #NVGov Republican Debate, Another Trump Litmus Test

Last week’s GOP debate was heavy on the Trump talking points and heavy on the Lombardo attacks

With about 200 people in the audience and over 5,000 views online, the second debate for the Republican gubernatorial field was just as chaotic as the first. Joey Gilbert, John Lee, and Fred Simon took the stage and spewed their Trump-focused platforms while putting a spotlight on Lombardo’s weaknesses.

Watch some of the most ridiculous moments…

And take a look at the best Lombardo jabs…

Fred Simon: “We have No Show Joe here that didn’t come, who runs Clark County as the sheriff. And he doesn’t want to work with ICE. He doesn’t want to take care of the homeless issue. He doesn’t want to do anything in relationship to what makes Las Vegas safe. We can’t have people like that. So we got to vote in the right people.”

John Lee: “Last session, Joe Lombardo had his lobbyists that are police officers stand down on every single bill. That’s why we got stuck with a no cash bail. We got stuck with all these stupid things because the sheriff of the largest county with the most officers had his people stand down so that he could get ready to run for this position of governor right now.”

Joey Gilbert: I refer to him as sanctuary, high crime Joe Lombardo and you know, October One shooting cover up Joe Lombardo. We cannot put this guy in the governor’s office, no matter what happens. Just please listen to me, Nevada, and to me, Elko: Joe Lombardo is not the answer to Nevada’s problems. A Southern Nevada guy’s not the answer. So I want to just say congratulations to the gentlemean here tonight. And for what they said, I think we could all agree that high crime, sanctuary Joe has gotta go.”

Elko Daily Free Press: GOP governor candidates discuss COVID, schools

  • Three Republican candidates for governor met Friday night in Elko for a primary debate that saw very little difference of opinion between them.
  • The GOP primary race’s two front-runners – Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo and former U.S. Sen. Dean Heller – declined invitations but a table was set up with photos of them and candidate Michelle Fiore, a Las Vegas city councilwoman.
  • “There is an evil connection now we’ve been through Obamacare, between the government and hospitals,” [Fred Simon] said, adding, “You cannot trust your hospitals.”
  • “I look at some of these shots and I wonder if you look at it and you don’t know if it’s battery acid or not,” [John Lee] said.
  • Gilbert said, “It’s not a vaccine, it’s a gene therapy.” He said under his administration people would be free to get vaccinated but it would be their choice, and they would also have the choice to receive hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.
  • Simon said the coronavirus “will be around and part of us forever.”
  • “The omicron is a blessing as long as we don’t vaccinate our children,” he added. “If we vaccinate our children we will never get herd immunity.”
  • “We actually want our children to get a little bit of exposed. That’s how every single infectious disease has been handled in the history of this country. But we have an evil dictator at the NIH who someday should be hung here in Elko,” Simon said to applause from the crowd, “because he actually has murdered many human beings around the world.”
  • “Per our CDC, our children are at a statistical zero percent chance of death,” Gilbert said. “Our healthy children should not be tested. … Our counties need to stand up and fight for our children.”
