As Sheriffs Assert Role in Elections, Lombardo Remains Silent…Per Usual

In a new report, Republican nominee for Nevada Secretary of State Jim Marchant said, if elected, he would work to “bring sheriffs back in” to our elections and encourage them to investigate elections (which are free and fair). As sheriff of Nevada’s largest county, Joe Lombardo has yet again left questions unanswered: does he believe sheriffs should get involved in elections, or will he split with Marchant, who he’ll be sharing the ballot with this November? As sheriff, will he investigate the 2022 election if he loses?

Lombardo has “publicly cast doubt” on the 2020 election and “peppered” his campaign with voter fraud claims. Earlier this month he shared a stage with Trump as the former president called the 2020 election rigged. As the rest of the GOP ticket continues pushing dangerous conspiracies, Lombardo must choose: protecting democracy or craven politics.

“Joe Lombardo has dangerously played both sides of the Big Lie, but now, he’s going to have to answer to a fellow Republican on the ballot pushing for sheriffs to investigate our elections,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “The longer Lombardo remains silent, the clearer his choice between protecting democracy and furthering his own political career becomes.”
