3 Days of Silence: Lombardo Won’t Answer If He’d Uphold or Undo Gov. Sisolak’s Executive Order Protecting Abortion

Days after Governor Sisolak signed an executive order extending protections for abortion providers and patients, Joe Lombardo still hasn’t shared if he’d uphold or reverse the order. As Republican governors around the country are looking to enact policies that would do the reverse–stop women from crossing state lines to receive an abortion–Lombardo owes Nevadans anwers.

After vowing to consider any anti-choice legislation, including mandatory waiting periods and contraception bans, and supporting overturning Nevada’s abortion protections, Lombardo is now trying to cover up his past comments and deflect basic questions.

A Republican governor could take a number of steps to limit Nevadans’ access to reproductive care, from undoing Governor Sisolak’s progress, to implementing barriers like ultrasound requirements and mandatory waiting periods, to cutting funding to family planning clinics. Lombardo has said all anti-choice legislation is on the table but won’t give specifics on his actual plans.

“Joe Lombardo is desperately trying to cover up his support for cruel anti-choice policies but voters won’t soon forget that he backed overturning Nevada’s abortion protections and left the door open for banning contraception,” said Nevada Democratic Victory spokesperson Mallory Payne. “A week after the Dobbs ruling, Lombardo won’t even answer basic questions about his promise to be an anti-choice governor.”
